Weekend Update...
This past weekend was very special for me because it's my first time doing a walk to raise awareness and money for the Sickle Cell research... I was lucky and happy to be part of something so special, I met really nice people who only have one goal which is to spread the word about Sickle Cell, and how important it is for everyone to get tested to find out if they are a carrier. A simple blood work that's all it takes.. The walk was a 10K walk and i am very proud of myself to start and finish the walk and by the way it was a great to exercise...
Here's why the weekend was great... the Sickle Cell Walk..It was great with African-American Day parade, the JETS beating the Patriots, the MANNING BOWL... A new show on HBO BoardWalk Empire...
On Sunday I went to the African-American day parade in Harlem NY and it was a fun parade along with great weather..It was my first time being at the parade and i had a great seat..
Sunday was it really great sunday in the sports for all the JETS FANS because the NY JETS beat the Patriot New ENGLAND... The quarter of the JETS Mark Sanchez was brilliant, he threw 3 touchdown passes and along with their strong defense stopped the Patriots and Tom Brady run....
The Manning Brothers...
I hope your weekend was fun and sweet.......

12th Annual Walk for SICKLE CELL AWARENESS
Hello Everyone! I just found from a friend that there's an annual Walk for Sickle Cell in Central Park on 9/17. Please be aware that Sickle Cell anemia is very close to my heart and I am happy to be part of the walk. I am excited to do the walk not only to meet others with Sickle Cell but also to learn more about it and to have a better understanding of how to help my body with cope with the pain. Here's a little more information about Sickle Cell that i gather from the web ..........."Sickle cell anemia is an inherited form of anemia — a condition in which there aren't enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen throughout your body.........Normally, your red blood cells are flexible and round, moving easily through your blood vessels. In sickle cell anemia, the red blood cells become rigid, sticky and are shaped like sickles or crescent moons. These irregularly shaped cells can get stuck in small blood vessels, which can slow or block blood flow and oxygen to parts of the body" Whenever my body is not getting enough oxygen i start to have pain, swollen joints and muscles. Well you might wondering what i do to keep my body healthy, for starters I drink plenty of fluids, eat lots of greens to help my body produce iron, and stay out of the cold...
Location: Central Park (Mineral Springs – W 67th Street & Central Park West)
To register it's $20 insite or online and the registration starts at 9am and the walk starts at 11am

Labor Day
When you hear of Labor Day all you can think of if you're from the West Indies is the parade, the festival, the colorful costumes, the food, the culture and of course the people. I made sure this year i got a piece of the celebration that went on in Brooklyn on 9/6. This is year is the first time i have gone to the parade and I enjoyed every part of. It was a great celebration, it's a reminder of what back home is all about. I really appreciate how the all the countries come together to show unity, when you see 3 friends they all have a flag with a different color of their country. A long the road there were so many vendors selling delicious food with lots of flavor from different countries, curry chicken, roti, oxtail, grio, all of these were popular among the buyers.. If you ever in New York during the Labor Day don't hesitate to join the parade..
Labor Day in Brooklyn |
Throughout Brooklyn people were selling flags, food any thing you know they serve in the Island... |
I really like this one, one of my favorite |
The people are following the floats and enjoying themselves........ |
I had no idea that the Haitian floats had the most people behind them... It was a great day. |
The vibrant color and the people that's what makes the parade.. |
The streets were filled with colorful costumes |
I got my flag to wave in the air..... |
It was a beautiful day for the West Indians to celebrate |
Elephant Man representing Jamaica on the Parkway..... |
